Listening Angle

Listening Angle was a site specific sound installation held in Shibaura House in Tokyo on October 21st 2016, as a part of Francisca Derqui’s one day long photograph exhibition. Using a portable digital microphone, sounds of the environment were amplified; such as the footsteps along the opening door, the manipulation of the coffee maker, the whispered voices in the library or the sound of pages turned in a book.Through the use of headphones, visitors were able to hear everyday sounds and could immerse themselves into a private listening space. A series of instructions encouraged the participants to write down all the sounds they could hear documenting the sonic landscape through their listening perceptions. This alteration of our normal perception fosters us to build a relationship with those sounds that we do not usually stop to listen to or just do not notice in our daily lives.
